good things about today [Sep. 18th, 2004|07:46 pm]

* Sleeping a whole bunch

* I had to fix messed up database stuff, but at least the weather is changing, which I always like. And the pouring rain made me feel like my place was inside, fixing databases.

* I finally got around to replacing my rear tire on my mountain bike. First time I've ever put on a tubeless tire. Wasn't nearly as hard as I'd come to understand.

* Cleaned the garage

* Went on a short ride on my newly-fixed mountain bike

* Fajitas & Margaritas

* Margaritas making boring sysadmin work tolerable

Notice how sleeping a whole bunch makes everything else so much better? That's key, folks.

A tubeless tire? What's the advantage of that?

They pop less and you can run them at lower pressure, which grips better.

The tire and wheel are air-tight, so to get a pinch-flat (snake bite) by hitting a rock or curb, you have to pierce the whole damn tire, which is really thick in comparison to tubes.

A snake bite is when you hit a rock or something and your wheel pokes two adjacent holes in your tube.

And I guess a lot of people do both... tubeless tire (air-tight on wheel), in addition to a tube. Extra protection, perhaps, but I guess it makes putting on the tire easier. And sometimes that gunk stuff too, which auto-fixes flats, at least temporarily.

But I'll let others correct me here, because I hardly know what I'm talking about. Whenever I go into a bike shop the salespeople and mechanics talk circles around me and I feel like Dina when I talk computers to her on accident.

Yeah sleep helps. That's what I did all day, and now I'm not hungover anymore. Woo!

I don't think sleeping more makes things better, but alcohol definitely helps with sysadminnery.

Sleeping the right amount, let's say. 3-5 hour tints of interrupted sleep for a week doesn't cut it.
