late night sysadminin' [Oct. 4th, 2004|02:56 am]
Brad Fitzpatrick
The past 5 or 6 days I've been staying up late and waking up late. It's great. (ooh I rhyme)

I'm getting sick of the 9-5 crap lately and it's nice to get down and dirty and work on a dozen sysadmin projects at once, all doing long copies or moves or upgrades or whatever, and making notes and keeping it all straight. All in beautiful silence and isolation.

Yes, definitely beats my regular jobs lately.

Now try staying up late (leaving office at 10-11PM) and waking up early (at work by 8AM). Pretty much what I've been doing lately...

I used to work long hours into the early hours of the morning over a year ago. Those were the days. :)

Working late is really nice. I find I'm way more productive at night, particularly when I'm doing stuff that requires concentration. It gets so quiet at night!

No kidding, when everyone else is gone you can finally get some quiet and get work done. I generally work 10-7 and as soon as 5 rolls around only the programmers and sysadmins are left. Ah, the blissful silence.

This is a luxury of a small business (one you own, but that's actually not the most important part). This simply Does Not Happen in the corporate world.

Which means that, since computers only break while people are asleep, I work 9-5, wasting much of that time (because I can't get change controls to do work during the day), then get paged at 3 am.

So, when was it that you needed a SAN-experienced third again? ;^>
