I've spent the past couple weeks getting to know InnoDB and device-mapper/LVM2 way better than I ever thought I would, so this is when I start getting dreamy:

Will be interesting to hear how you get on with that. We still do it the reduced service way if we lose all slaves: switch to the fallback master (or any other slave) in read only mode, then copy the master files as fast as we can.

Usually when we want to copy we stop one of two or more slaves, copy from there, then let replication catch up. As well as the normal slaves we usually have some web servers doing backup-only replication as a secondary job.
