We call the white elephant game a Yankee Swap here, but none of my friends are from NY so no one is offended.

It's funny how you hate clothes when you're a kid, but when you grow up and realize you hate shopping, it can be a nice gift.

I won't allow myself to buy GTA:SA until I finish GTA III and Vice City. I have one mission to go on each of them but can't seem to find the time to finish them!

How much disk space does an hour of HD footage take up on your computer? Is it compressed at all (or would that kind of negate the point)?

I forget.

But yeah, it's already compressed... HDTV is just some version of MPEG. The ATSC is like 15 specs in one... so space depends on what you're recording.

I'll make a post about it.

And you shouldn't buy just one... stockpile them. What if your only one breaks?

Did you get your dad a Delta? I have a Delta 44, and although it works with ALSA, it's a little funny about certain things... they're generally OK if you don't have a VIA chipset, though. (I have a KT133 [old ASUS A7V] and it causes static on the recording line because of latency timings or something like that.)

Generally, as long as you use them with professional apps, they're pretty good, and the sound quality is excellent. If you try to use them in any consumer-based app, they can be a little tricky (particularly anything which requires OSS emulation, since they can't do mmap'ed OSS emulation).

Maudio makes some cool stuff. I use some of their things for recording

but my main input/output is done via a presonus firepod

and why do you think that pciHDTV thing is going to become illegal?

They don't respect the broadcast flag. Seriously, you have 6 months to go buy one.
