And let me add: there were many factors in choosing a successor:
1) fun at work
2) good for community
And that's how I ordered it. The first two are pretty correlated.
Sup Brad's mom. Does this mean you'll get help managing the customer service phoneline now? ;p
Retirement!!!! Bigger Woo Hoo. Wait, I am too young to use the word retirement.
Extended Leisurely Sabbatical
So when does the floodgate of shiny new perl developer positions open in San Francisco? I could use a change of scenery. :)
It is a comedy to watch all the journalists scrambling in anxiety over change. Brad, hats off to you:) You have done a marverlous job of giving birth to LiveJournal and nurturing it into its beautiful growth. Success was measured by dollar signs to most, but the greater succes is growth, it is time that you fly to something new. You have made a wonderful, priceless contribution to life, now others would do well by supporting your priceless contribution to your own growth. My only fear in all of the dominoes falling is that you fade out of here along with your neautiful mind, and deny us the pleasure of learning from your wandering thoughts. Those that are upset by the sale of livejournal need to get back to real life and realize if giving the same oppurtunity to make more than one dream in your lifetime come true, they too would follow your footsteps.

Stop trying to defend yourself man. You've made your case and now let the masses deal with it...
If you keep trying to explain yourself, you're just going to start sounding more and more guilty of whatever it is people think you've done...

Thanks for your support, Nicholas buddy. :P
Agree with Nick…
While you literally did “sell out”, you didn’t do it under the cognition that terms means to many.
You’ve been looking for someone to take over the business side of things for a while. With this deal, instead of paying someone to handle it all, you got them to pay you!
Seems like the better option to me.
At first, I thought that LiveJournal was going to be botched, butchered, and beheaded by 6A, and I'd never recognize it or want to have anything to do with it. I almost wanted to quit doing Support, which would have been a tragedy because it's one of my favorite hobbies these days. And on top of that, I thought you would be laughing it up on a pile of money.
But with the information that close to everything is staying the same, I'm sort of excited about it too. What will our new overlords be like? And I'm sort of glad that you're finally free of the negativity of running everything. Have fun with your new arrangements!
Lastly, I'd like you to do a few things. Try to keep the same attitude in official posts, and keep up the April Fools jokes. It just won't seem like LiveJournal without those things.
I know you said please no tech support questions, but I was wondering what you use to keep the servers virus free. I have something on one of my servers and I was wondering if you or anyone knew of good anti-virus software, preferably free...
If you would please get back to me with something asap, that would rock. Thanks ^_^
