It's one of those database nights. Watching 3 sets of progress bars move way too slowly.

Wish there were something on Tivo at least to kill some time.

Tivo also has a progress bar! Your life is a blur of thermometers. Quick, launch another big wget.

I press play repeatedly too while I watch, to make the bar show and hide.

better is to launch ~ 5 wgets, all backgrounded-
then it just becomes a blur of crap-
also works well from the "looking very busy at work" angle :P

I like watching downloaded TV and movies myself, I'm generally afraid of integrated things like Tivo that are "easy to use". As far as being tired and unaccomplished, the Gentoo install I was working on isn't booting, maybe the reason will come to me in a dream.

Maybe if you weren't being a Gentoo ricer and watching your libc compile for the 5th time this week you'd be sleeping right now.

Please, please tell me I'm not correct and you actually have a good reason to be up at this ungodly hour.

Pbbbftt put in a good Star Trek movie. They're laced with delicious, distracting, LDS goodness.

And if you don't own any ST movies, then hell, you should.

Especially since he's moving to the Bay Area.

Brad, you have to watch Star Trek IV (and be amused that the "Cetacean Institute" supposedly in Sausalito is actually well south of there, in Monterey).

They just released a fancy two-disc special edition of Star Trek: Generations, which bridges the gap between the original Star Trek crew and the Next Generation crew. It's my favorite movie in the bunch. You should cop it.

Compression

Did you end up finding a solution to speeding up compression?

Re: Compression

No. But that's a big fat item on my todo list.

You know you should practice your speedreading when an entry like this hits your brain as "I had a dream where my TiVo tried to kill me."

I don't know who you use for your cable provider, but if you have Comcast with HD you should also be getting OnDemand, which basically gives you instant access to a month's worth of content for many popular cable channels. It's like TiVo, except it's all pre-recorded, and there's a shitload of stuff to choose from. Always good when you are jonesing for some entertainment and the TiVo is all dried up.
