The Great LiveJournal
Outage of 2005

During the outage I hid under the table crying and refused to come out.

What did you do?

Brought to you by geek-foo

In other news, it seems everybody loves this icon:

I still haven't written the why-we-were-down-so-long post. I'd wanted to include the reason the power went out in the first place, but we're not being told that until Tuesday close-of-business, so maybe I'll just wait until tomorrow evening.

Fulfilling the Warhollian maxim, i think this is your fifteen minutes of fame.

Unfortunately, it's not really yours, you just get credit for the dumbass who dropped a screwdriver across the bus bars in the breaker panel.

The question *I* want to know...

...Is how whatever happened was able to take out supposedly "redundant" power, too. I hope you guys are at least getting [ass kissing/refund/pleas of mercy] from Internap.

Re: The question *I* want to know...

Probably this:

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/E/EPO.html

That's what happened last time. Some dumbass needing to use the bathroom hitting the button because it wasn't labeled and he thought it opened the door.

Re: The question *I* want to know...

Of course, one could also fault the designers for not making it abundantly more clear what that button does, putting it behind a safety bar, etc.

hitting the button because it wasn't labeled

IOW, Human Error, the one thing it is impossible to engineer out of the system.

It figures.

Re: The question *I* want to know...

Ah, the "hey, that must be the door button, that's why it's so !#*& hard to push and has a metal collar so it can't be activated by leaning on it" syndrome.

We've BTDT, and got to spend the hours cleaning stuff up. Thankfully, between the battery-backed cache on the RAID gear and the journaling file systems, we didn't lose anything of note, but it still took a while to put the pieces back together. (Yes, I did see your note about the lying disk arrays.)

LIKEOMG LJ CUT U ASSHOL!

(I kid, I kid!)

I'm glad that meme was somewhat inaccurate for someone else other than me. It told me I was downloading illegal anime porn, which I wasn't. Said anime was legal I'd never do such a thing! I am innocent! Why, I'd never think of downloading illegal things! Why do people mention Kazaa? I thought it was the sister-circus of Cirque de Soleil?!
