Fun day at the office....

Yup yup.

Playing with my old Axis 2100 camera and implementing the Nokia Upload Protocol so people with Nokia camera phones can post directly to picpix.com / ScrapBook.

My life exists merely to improve others by being the butt of jokes. It's great.

You like how I had to go over there to get a cookie and mutter something incomprehensible?

Heh.

Not sharp enough. I can't read the passwords on the smaller sticky notes or the whiteboard.:)

i've been in that room!

(gia would prolly prefer fangirlishness for me... or stalkingness. she's always accused me of that. :P)

if you implement the functionality for nokia phones people are going to bitch/complain/whine until you (and/or the lj/6a crew) make it so other phones can do the same thing.

anyway... good to see that lj hasnt changed much since the buyout. and it seems that you guys are having a blast with it.

good luck to you all. :)

If other phones publish specs like Noka, we'll support whatever.

There's a limit to our sanity, though, so we're not going to try too hard to screen scrape HTML-only emails from Verizon/Sprint, following 3 links on sprint.com/verizon.com until we get to the full-sized JPEG.

i havent seen the specs that nokia has released but if it's spelled out and easy, it should be fine.

i agree with the multi-hops-being-bad idea.

you dont want your servers working more than they need too.

hmm... just thought of something. we've got the spiffy diagram of the lj servers and how they all interact with each other. it might be a little out of date by now, but my idea is to maybe create a diagram of how lj interacts with the fb servers and how that works.

i'd be interested in seeing that and haven't come across anything like that yet.

That said, the relevant screen-scraping is about 45 minutes of Perl, and could clearly be the target of a .forward controlled by the user, which would work just fine.

Just feels dirty and prone to breakage and more pain down the road.

That was in no way a suggestion that LJ should muddy its toes with doing this, just that you've already made plenty of tools for people with lame-ass cell providers and a photo-phone to be able to deal on their own, if they've got half a clue.

As an LJ user and a Nokia sales rep, your posts (this and the later one) about supporting the Nokia API make me very happy. :)

I just finally got a modern Nokia phone, hence the delay.

You should've sent me a free one years ago! :-)

If only I had known! I don't suppose a few Nokia pens around the office would be an acceptable token of thanks? I'm not high enough up the food chain for it to be an official endorsement ("Nokia: The official mobile imaging device of LiveJournal" sure does have a nice ring to it), but I'm allowed to give away some promotional goodies here and there.

Heh. Don't worry about it... I'd just lose a pen (or a phone) anyway. :-)
