LiveJournal Backend presentation on Tuesday [Apr. 17th, 2005|04:37 pm]

If you're going to be at the MySQL user conference, I'll be speaking on Tuesday about LiveJournal. I put Mark down as a speaker too so he could go for free. We'll have to figure out how we'll split up our precious 45 minutes.

Doing the slides now.

Having done 4 presentations already, this is getting increasingly easier. Copy/paste, rearrange, add, remove, freshen up weak areas from before, add more graphics....

I know dormando, krow, and peter_zaitsev will be there. Who else? Wikipedians?

holy crap that looks interesting. I think there would be way more than 45min of stuff to talk about but I don't see any problem keeping everyone interested in it for that long. I didn't see any mention of Frank in the slides though.

having read the previous somewhat-similar lj presentations (and poked around wikipedia's "how we do it" pages), how much new stuff will there be in this presentation? :)

It'll be largely the same, but a lot more pictures, and better structure. Fair amount of new stuff, especially since last year's MySQL conference, but lot of the new stuff I'd talked about at LISA already.

whee.

I'll be there too (having a session wednesday and thursday).

I'm giving my "real world web scalability" talk on thursday. It is, of course, not all that different in content from yours. (I even stole one of your slides! (as you know))

:)

Re: whee.

The ones about replication not scaling writes.

I put them here: http://tmp.askask.com/2005/04/ (omnigraffle rocks for making pretty illustrations quick).

Man... I'd definitely be there, if I wasn't flat broke. :-) Both Bugzilla and my business would definitely benefit from my attendance, I'm sure. :-)

Any chance you'd be able to record the presentation for those of us who can't make it? :(

Are you going to address the power failure issues you had with Isam vs Inno DB tables at all?

I'll be at you presentation. I'll also be at the welcome, state of the dolphin and defining open source presentations. More on the fun side might be the panel on scaling and high availability challenges and the presentationon query optimization - both on my to do list.
