Again, good for homeland security! [May. 18th, 2005|09:25 pm]
Brad Fitzpatrick
Remember my last post, making fun of homeland security mentions? How about this one....
Remote haptic interaction could allow people who are allergic to dogs and cats to caress their pets remotely. Used in zoos, it may allow visitors to pat a lion or scratch a bear. A security officer could remotely and silently signal a dog wearing a haptic suit, giving the animal instructions by simply touching it, which could be useful in rescue work or homeland security applications.
Ahh yeah. Remotely petting chickens and fighting the terrorists. All things connected.

okay, maybe this is normal and i just missed it or something, but... if you were allergic to an animal, why would you keep one as a pet?

Well, if you really love a certain type of animal but are allergic, you would probably do whatever is needed to have one with minimal suffering. That said, I don't see how this thing would help, because you can be allergic to an animal and not touch it. If they're implying that you keep the dog out in the garage and never actually interact with it face-to-face, well...that's just cruel. :P

So Livejournal decided to restrict free users from changing from style to style? This is crap, I originally had a paid account and made a few styles. I was told that we were able to change styles under free accounts but we couldn't go back and edit styles. That was fine with me, as long as I could change styles, I was happy. At the near end of my paid account I made like three styles so that I was able to use them under a free account. This is the only reason why I paid for a paid account. I like having different layouts.

Is this a temporary thing, or is this permanent? I'm hoping this is a temporary thing while you guys update the current public styles that you're supposedly working on. If not temporarily, then is there any way I can get some credit? I mean, I was told that I could use my styles permanently, I just couldn't edit them...and now I can't even use the styles I've created.

My userinfo bio asks to not bug me about things I don't know about. That's what's support is for. To direct things to the right person. I'm not the right person.

But back on topic, do you like to remotely pet chickens?

[Used in zoos, it may allow visitors to pat a lion or scratch a bear.]

I only endorse this technology in zoos if there's some sort of reciprocity where the animals are given technology to remotely maul individuals in the crowd.

Yeah! We can fight terrorism with OpenID! Once all those terrorists (since, you know, we're surrounded by them, all the time, everywhere... all over the place, really... always have been... for hundreds of years...) realize they can comment on anybody's blog easily and quickly using their own ID, they'll just start leaving comments everywhere until they get caught!
