The TypeKey that speaks OpenID is live!

Just go rebuild your TypeKey profile page (tinker with your profile or something) and then you can use your profile URL as your OpenID on LiveJournal.com/etc.

Woot!

Quick question: what does OpenID offer over Shibboleth? Can OpenID replace Shibboleth?

Re: Woot!

Can OpenID replace Shibboleth?

Absolutely not.

Shibboleth has much loftier goals. OpenID's goal is to get people thinking about authentication and make it as painless as possible in the simple cases.

I thought that a central idea behind OpenID was to get away from central auth services. Doesn't TypeKey go against that?

TypeKey was centralized, yes, and still can be, but now it's _also_ a member of the decentralized OpenID community.

Is it intentional that OpenID logins can add schools? Since they don't show up in the list of people at the school once added.

They should be able to show up in the school directory ... probably an oversight. But yeah, it's fine for them to add schools.

And just after I post, it starts working http://www.livejournal.com/schools/?ctc=AU&sc=WA&cc=Perth&sid=849
This OpenID stuff is cool.
