A better way to configure asterisk would be fine. It actually works really well, it's just ridiculous to configure.

It works well, but the whole dialplan/action system has been kludged to insanity.

Its configuration system is arcane, confusing, and limiting. The source tree is a morass, the architecture anything but clear to someone wanting to add features.
