DJabberd status update [Mar. 9th, 2006|10:10 pm]

Got a bit more Djabberd work done today. It's coming along nicely. One of the big s2s hurdles, not working with GTalk, is now fixed, due to a quickly-mentioned part of the spec that I overlooked. (and which is a MUST which depends on a SHOULD ... spec bug?)

At this point I need to finish outgoing s2s (should be damn easy given all the infrastructure which has been built out), fix one notable SSL bug (should be straight-forward, but boring, now that I've read more about OpenSSL programming), and then finish up the routing/delivery framework which I spec'ed up today and mostly finished.

But tomorrow is Seattle, then Portland, so I'm not sure how much productive hacking I'll get done without consistent Internet access.

Also: we now have our SMS gateway starting to come online. We're linked up with Sprint now, waiting for the other carriers. Then LJ's SMS features will start to appear.

For what it's worth, Mart and I tested the Jabber→GMail chat and it worked fine. But I think I may have had to add him to my buddy list using a "normal" Jabber client (Gaim).

I should point out that I'm using jabberd 1.4, not DJabberd. I'm waiting for DJabberd to mature a little before I use it as my “real” Jabber server.

After some success interacting with you, Evan, I persuaded one of my collegues who uses GMail to get Talk and be a guinea pig I could watch. It seems that he was able to respond to my subscribe request using the real Talk client but not on the interface integrated into the GMail site. Once I was added, he was then able to start a conversation with me in the web client.

I wonder how the gmail stuff handles authorization requests... hm.

DJabberd isn't functional enough yet to use as one's actual jabber server. I'll make a post when it's ready, and probably a website.

How did you get access to the SMS network? Do you actually have a seat or are you buying access from a 3rd party company?

The only work you're going to be doing over the next couple of days is the work it'll take for your liver to process drinks!
