mac mini [Aug. 19th, 2006|12:08 pm]

Was looking into getting another Mac mini (replacing mine with an Intel chip and giving my G4 one to Dina) but they all come with 512MB of memory, which from experience with Mac mini #1 is painfully little.

Compare the upgrade prices:
crucial.com:
$113 for 1GB
$227 for 2GB

apple store online:
$100 for 1GB
$300 for 2GB

sf store:
$300 for 1GB
$600 for 2GB
Go SF store! That's just impressive.

That's the wrong kind...

Mac Minis are still laptops on the inside. Its still cheaper at newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820146125

$185 and out of stock. Grrr.

I need to bump mine up from 512 before next weekend.

Same Story @ Apple Store in SLC

I replaced my wife's aging G4 mac mini (1.42 GHz, 256MB RAM) with an intel duo core version, but had to settle for their 1GB RAM, 100 GB HDD package ~$950 instead of getting the 2 GB RAM and 120 GB HDD like I wanted.

Same upgrade pricing at the SLC store. They gave me some BS story about not being able to repackage the RAM in the mini for resell... blah blah blah.

As a side note... I'm sure impressed with parallels performance on that machine. The wife is still somewhat tethered to Win XP.

apple store online for my 1.5ghz powerbook is $300 for 1GB and that wouldn't even get it installed by a genius. I feel sorry for the people that buy it because they don't know better. It seems so rude to me.

WTF?! to upgrade the macbook to 2gb, it's $450 online! vs. crucial @ $227.

Do you void the macbook warranty by upgrading yourself? I've heard those things have some problems.
