Ain't it handy?

I've changed the "boarding group" i was in a few times, but that's it. I worry that they might be manually cross-checking the information at the gate.

It could be amusing to change one's seat to see what happens, but it's hard to know ahead of time which seats will contain cute girls...

This may explain some of the seat mixups I've seen.

Boarding passes aren't for travellers

I think the misunderstanding here is that boarding passes are some sort of security token. They were never intended as such, and are used that way largely for show (as demonstrated here).

Boarding passes were created for the convenience of the airlines. I don't want this to be "ZOMG TIN FOIL HAT BRIGADE GO!" but the whole ticketing process is incredibly weak, and by the time you're at the airport, you have very few obstacles of actually getting on a plane, or getting your stuff on a plane.

Anyway, this is another example of how little we've done to "secure air travel", ultimately, but it's also the least likely point of attack on a system. You can still be verified against the GDS/CRS. It's just not expedient to do so, and rarely happens at the gate.
