so, how can you translate "Ишь ты"? :-)
"Fuck you!", but without sexual connotation :))))))))
? Чем, к примеру, плох вариант "Oh, come on!"?
IHOP is giving away free pancakes some day next week to celebrate it. (I think on the 20th?)
Shrove Tuesday (Marde Gras) was traditionally a day when pancakes were made and eaten in homes across Europe because every bit of meat fat had to be used up before Lent began on Ash Wednesday. This tradition of pancakes on Shrove Tuesday goes back to the early days of Christianity and is still the custom in many European countries.
Великий Пост сразу после Масленицы! No meat, or anything animal food for 40 days. ;)
Try pancakes with caviar if you have a chance - one of the traditional recipies. Russian pancakes are a bit different from, say, IHOP ones - they are thinner and larger, you are supposed to "pack" stuffing in them, wrap them up and eat. Stuffing can be either sweet (jam, preserves, fresh fruit, whipped sour cream and sugar, honey) or savory (caviar, smoked fish, even ground beef, but that's cooked separately). Traditionally you're expected to eat a lot (and I mean a LOT) of pancakes during Maslenitsa. Good stuff.
My Russian friend, Lana, suggested this recipe for making Blinus:
"I made one time with strawberry jem , recipe it very easy : 1 glass flour+ 2eggs+ 2 glass milk+little solt+ little sugar, they should be te thin, blend, put little bit olio on the frying pan and 2-3 min each blins:)))"
I'm going to give it a shot.
"I forgot, before put blins on pan, pour olive oil and keep pan 1-2 min on oven after put olio for blins on pan"
We celebrated pancake tuesday growing up, the day before Ash Wednesday(the first day of lent). Those panjcakes where yummy, but were more like sweet sugar crepes.
If you happen to eat some pancakes during the week or month, we're running a month-long Pancake Food Fight at Menuism.com (http://www.menuism.com/foodfight). Rate the pancakes for the chance to win $50.
