Belize to Tokyo [Mar. 18th, 2007|11:09 pm]
Brad Fitzpatrick

When I get back from Belize, that same day I'm leaving to Tokyo.

That will be... interesting.

think you might leave a day early?

I think that'd be really expensive to change at this point.

You're going to feel dead.

But, as a photographer, I like knowing you're into that too. It's fun to look at stuff taken in different places since I haven't had the chance to travel abroad yet.

Enjoy it!

Today I got offered a job one of the best dive companies here in Aqaba, Jordan. (I wasn't even looking for one) The job would involve me being the "speaks perfect english" guy. They would teach me to dive (they know I've never dived before) and would certify me for free. Plus pay and free room. A beautiful setup, but I can't take it. Gotta go to Egypt and West Africa....

Man, if I were in a position to do nothing for the next 6 months I would do this... but, Brad, if you get tired of staring at computers, you could always come out to the Red Sea and get a job. The weather's great. ;-)

I would love to go back to the Red Sea. Spent a week in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt and it blew me away.

Make sure you visit the fish market (need to get up at around 5:00AM) if you haven't already. And bring an SLR with a pretty fast lens. It was the highlight of Tokyo for me....

Agreed on the fishmarket.

50mm f/1.4 was the correct choice for there, but on my little rebel, I wish I'd had a 1.8 24mm instead. And maybe a macro.

(correct choice would probably be 2 bodies with 2 lenses loaded; 5D with the 50mm f/1.4, and 300-400D with the 100mm f/2.8 macro, just to avoid doing lens changes)

Also, wear fish-resistant boots, the floor is wet. And watch out for the death carts.

If you're not flying a premium cabin, I really hope you have some kind of lounge access! Priority Pass is decent, or United RCC (I'm assuming you're flying *A), if you're not a *G.

Tokyo united lounge is nice... I spent 3 hours in the middle of DXB-HKG-SIN-NRT-SFO relaxing in one of the private shower rooms (there's a chair, and it's much more peaceful than anywhere else in the airport...plus wireless AND an open power socket...)
