Dan and I finished the race this morning... 1:13:59, in 4660th place, which means we'll be in the newspaper for being in top 10,000 finishers, out of ~80,000 participants. (notice I didn't say 80,000 runners... :))

"Did you run the whole time?", everybody keeps asking. Yes, no problem. The slow pace in the first couple miles (necessary due to congestion) probably saved us, otherwise we might've ran it at our normal unmaintainabile speeds. We sped up signifigantly at the end, though. I think our splits were ~6 mph, followed by 6.5 mph. We probably ran faster each mile, the more I think about it.

The run was a total blast... party atmosophere... lot of music, hilarity. Perfect weather.

At the end, Dan and I realized we had no money, ID, or phone, so we started the ~2 hour walk back, until we realized we could get a taxi and just pay for the taxi once we were back at my car.

Then we drank, walked to get burgers, drank, went to the park and laid in the sun (and drank), .... lot of sun, drinking, and more sun today.

Started to get exhausted & get a headache. Laid down for "a nap" at 6:30 pm and woke up at 10:30 pm. Whoops. So much for sleep cycle. But at least I'm not working tomorrow (or next week, or next month) since I'm on vacation.

What did Mike (and maybe you) used to call your burst of speed at the end of the race in cross-country?

Where did you start the race? I got there late, started at the back of Zone 2, and paid the price; I spent most of the race bobbing and weaving through the heavy congestion - it felt like a 7 mile obstacle course. Then again, it's not so much a race - more like the world's biggest street party! :-)

Also in Zone 2. 7 mile obstacle course is right! I was dodging parking meters, parked cars and people the whole time, never maintaining a constant speed.

My sleeping is completely out of whack, too. I was sleeping on my floor the last couple of days because my dad was staying with me and had my bed, so last night (first night back in my own bed) I slept for 9 hours, then took something like a 6 hour nap today, waking up at 11pm.

As I get older, not having a normal sleep schedule (i.e. waking up in the mornings and going to bed before midnight) annoys me more. Maybe that whole "staying up till 4 or 5 am" thing was a by-product of youth.
