Burning Man tickets now on sale:

Weird e-commerce system ever. You "wait in line" while JavaScript updates your place in line occasionally:

It's almost enough to make you want to reject this whole capitalist rat-race and escape for a week to the desert for a gift-economy...

It's not looking likely so far. I don't know if I have it in me. If I'm going to go I want to commit to some big participation, but I don't feel like I have the energy for that right now. Who knows - perhaps I'll just go at the last minute like the first time I went :)

How much do you want to bet that the "line" is implemented entirely on the client side?

It's an amazing improvement over the previous years, though... I believe it started last year. In the previous years, one had to deal with overloaded servers and refreshing a thousand times in hope of getting through... Then trying to complete checkout over and over with the whole thing timing out at various points before you could complete the transaction... It used to take hours of hair-pulling :)

This year you need a walkabout and let us know what frequency you'll be using ahead of playatime ! We've played find the "blue hard-hatted guy" in vain two or three times last year ;)

They put this system in place last year. In previous years the InTicketing servers usually crashed the day tickets went on sale.

Sort of reminds me of how they sell tickets for the major concerts which sell out in minutes. I also found out, the hard way, that they catch you if you try to cheat and wait in line twice.

But there's no actual "capacity" to Burning Man... is there? I mean, can't they simply expand to meet all demand? Or am I missing something basic?

I bought two tickets. You're welcome to one of them if you visit during that time.
