I'm in love with Lala.com:

http://lala.com/

I'm having a hard time finding something to not like about it.

It's a music site combining purchasing, listening, uploading (your online music locker), social stuff, etc.

News about its relaunch today:

having been a longtime member and used it extensively, i have lots of gripes about it.

- generic customer service... if you send an email of any kind, it gets signed "customer service" with no name of who responded. this is probably because the responses tend to be cut and paste things, many of which don't relate to what it was you sent the email about, and at least half the messages you try to send never get answered.

- ratio of what you give to what you get. if you work it out mathematically, you'll find that lala is making far more money off you than the value of the cds you get. which makes sense to some extent, they're a business not a charity, but it's a total ripoff. you're far better off just selling the cds at a local shop and buying the ones you want.

- not upfront about how the system really works. they have some back end technique where they give more points or whatever you want to call it to cds which are more popular/desired and less for ones which are less desired. which makes sense, but nowhere will they specify what that is lest the community get pissed off. so they're as vague as possible about it and imply that it's not really that heavily weighted, but in reality it's so heavily weighted that i got maybe 1 cd for every 10 of mine that went away, which was not what the value of the cds was rated at used cd shops etc.

maybe some of these things have changed now, i'd hope so. but my bitterness about them made me quit using it. in all fairness tho, this is strictly about the cd swapping as i haven't tried the newer features
