an isolated teenager who doesn't necessarily play well with others, at last your baby's old enough to sign up for its very own livejournal account to emote all about it.

It's gotten really quiet, but I have to say, this is still the place I feel most at home on the internet. I've got a few great friends here (most of whom I only know via LJ), and I don't see myself giving it up. I thought about switching to DW, but only a couple of my friends are there, so here I still am.

It's good to see your face. You did an amazing thing creating this site, and it still has value. Well done.

Hi there. :) It's pretty quiet here from what I can see, though there are still a good number of very active communities.

Hey my friend you might remember Nov 27, 1999

This should be fun for you.. http://web.archive.org/web/19991127092624/www.livejournal.com/

What's that expression the more things change the more they stay the same. Not sure that applies here. Most of the old school gang has moved on or lost interest but yeah a few of us die hards still love the format and hey we have friends here going back 12 or 13 years thanks to you, so yeah some of us are still here.

And how's your life going my friend? Up and happy I hope. Yep yer baby is doing just fine even if there are nay sayers.

Don't be such a stranger Brad, drop by for a beer or ??? anytime cause it's good to see you.

Hey, Brad ... good to see you in here.

So many of the old faces have faded away ... heck, even cryo recently announced that he's going to be shutting his LJ down.

Some of us are still around, however ... I still use this as the genesis-point of my book reviews, as they grew out of my general journaling here.

Of course, "life is change" and the social media landscape now stretches far and wide, with so many more options than "back in the old days". Earlier this week I was doing a post about 9/11 and how amazing things were on LiveJournal then ... when the way the LJ community grabbed the technology and made it work amid the chaos certainly foreshadowed how things like Twitter and Facebook have come to be the "first responders" for news stories (real and imagined). In writing that piece I was trying to triangulate how many members were on board here at 9/11, and came up with a guesstimate of 325,000 ... a tiny drop compared to even LJ's current account numbers, let alone the "big boys" out there. However, it's sort of hard to use LJ the way most folks did back in 2000 and 2001 ... which resembles a bit more verbose version of Twitter ... so I think the folks who've stayed have done so due to long-format and "journal-like" posts (one guy on my friends list does about 1,000 words a day about the minutia of his day-to-day existence, for example), since these modalities haven't really found homes in the other platforms.

Frankly, most of the changes around these parts have been mixed blessings (I really dislike the new scrapbook, for example), but I'm not likely to walk away from LJ, with over 4,400 posts here.

What have you been up to lately?

They've done a pretty good job at killing it off everywhere outside Russia.
