just recompiled my kernel again, but finally got it right this time. i'm now running Linux 2.2.13, optimized for 686, and DMA is now being used for disk access... altogether, much faster than before. very nice. my vacation is going great so far. next step.... figure out how linux deals with scsi devices, and get my CD-burner working again. |
